My wife and I got up early and left our campsite to watch the sun rise over Mt Rushmore. However, once we arrived at the entrance to the site, we realized that wouldn’t be happening because they didn’t even open until 8am! So, we did the next best thing. Drove on the narrow, scenic highway in the Black Hills to the South until we found this viewpoint! I waited and kept shooting until the thick clouds broke up enough to shine subtle light onto the faces. It only lasted a few minutes, and then it was overcast the rest of the day. I’m glad I remained persistent and stubborn enough to get the shot I wanted.
